What You'll Do
- Perform detailed phenotyping and annotation of the Duke University SEEG database to support clinical and translational epilepsy research.
- Design, develop, and execute an independent research project focused on understanding the interaction between sleep and epilepsy.
- Identify meaningful clinical and scientific insights through the integration of complex neurological datasets.
- Plan, conduct, and analyze experiments involving patients undergoing SEEG monitoring.
- Perform and support intracranial electrical stimulation studies within established research protocols.
- Integrate multimodal clinical, electrophysiological, and sleep-related data to address important research questions.
- Evaluate clinical neurophysiology, intracranial EEG, and sleep datasets to generate research findings.
- Apply quantitative and analytical approaches to support data interpretation and scientific discovery.
- Utilize programming and data analysis tools such as MATLAB, Python, R, or related platforms, when applicable.
- Present research findings at national and international scientific meetings.
- Prepare and publish manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals.
- Contribute to grant applications, collaborative research initiatives, and scientific reports.
- Participate in multidisciplinary collaborations with clinicians, researchers, engineers, and data scientists.
- Mentor students, trainees, and junior researchers as appropriate.
- Foster a culture of scientific rigor, innovation, integrity, and teamwork.
What You'll Bring
Required Qualifications
- MD, PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree in Clinical Neurophysiology, Epilepsy, Neuroscience, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated training and proficiency in stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) interpretation in patients with epilepsy.
- Experience conducting intracranial EEG research in epilepsy.
- Knowledge of sleep physiology and sleep staging/scoring using established clinical standards.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary research environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of epilepsy presurgical evaluation and advanced SEEG interpretation.
- Experience conducting human intracranial stimulation experiments.
- Programming and data analysis experience using MATLAB, Python, R, or related analytical tools.
- Familiarity with advanced neurophysiological signal processing methodologies.
- Experience with quantitative EEG analysis techniques.
- Experience contributing to publications, presentations, grant applications, or research collaborations.
